Pharmacy check

Trace the medicine to the pharmacy

Ask for the actual pharmacy name before relying on the service’s branding. Keep that name with your care notes.

The source notes used here were recorded on or before September 26, 2026. Later changes may be missing.

Check the place that supplies it

FDA says someone ordering pharmacy-made medicine through a pharmacy website or online care service may not know who actually prepared it.

FDA’s pharmacy licence page links to each state board’s list of licensed pharmacies. FDA says to avoid a pharmacy if it is missing from the state board’s list.

How to check the pharmacy name

Keep the supplied pharmacy name for comparison with the name printed on the parcel’s medicine label.

  1. Request the pharmacy name

Ask which pharmacy will supply the medicine and, if it is made separately for you, which place prepares it.

  2. Reach the state lookup

Follow the FDA link in the page notes, choose your state, then open its list of licensed pharmacies.

  3. Match the licence details

Search for the pharmacy and compare its name, location and licence status with the details supplied.

  4. Resolve a mismatch

Ask the board or pharmacist about any name or record that does not match before relying on it.

Page notes[c]

A licence check is one part of the check

FDA’s pharmacy checklist also looks for a valid prescription, US contact details and a licensed pharmacist available for questions.

FDA cautions that a convincing pharmacy webpage can hide a false storefront.

FDA’s record dated September 26, 2026 describes false labels bearing invented pharmacy names. Some false labels used an existing pharmacy’s name even though it had made none of that medicine.

Finding the pharmacy on the list confirms its licence. It cannot tell you whether each decision to supply medicine is right for the patient.

Ask who handles a damaged parcel or a label that does not match. Keep the packaging available for that conversation.
